Real Labour levelling up initiatives in Suffolk: Craig Macartney.

Palliative care for cancer ♋️ in a Covid world gives you a clarity of thought that all progressives should embrace . Sleepy Suffolk does offer us a glimpse of what real Labour Levelling Up should be about .
Last week The Principal of Suffolk New College signed an agreement with Sizewell to fund an extend high level STEM , supply chain and construction courses . This on the back of a renewed range of land based Green Economy courses with Otley college and investment in High level Games Design courses for a productive post Brexit World .Not to be outdone the Vice Chancellor of University of Suffollk is extending a range of NHS backed health and social care courses which reflects greater interest during covid . In addition a massive investment with BT in a digital campus at Martlesham to promote digital and cyber security degree apprenticeships . In Ipswich we share best practice through the Ipswich Opportunity Area . Devolved funds share best practice in Maths and English from Primary upwards, with Investment in well-being and mental health projects that work .
In my school Copleston we have widened our partnerships with stakeholders .Nineteen Eighties style work experience is dead . Covid showed it often reinforced inequality as sharp elbowed parents bagged the best placements . In the covid world virtual placements allowed us to offer shorter, higher quality and aspirational offers , sometimes globally , in a way we never dreamt of . We established deeper links with our existing partners in the University World , but many of our students completed courses at global Universities on UNIFROG in exciting new ways , even our Year 7 students . Key partners such as TEEN Tech moved away from huge STEM fairs to direct lessons online , and careers fair online were better than the usual “ who has got the most pens “ .
We still have vibrant real interns at Adnams , staff brewery tour in exchange for alcohol free ghost ship Science lessons from the Master Brewer ! We have great links with Cambridge university via the regional.Social mobility hub NEACO and students snd staff alike enjoy understanding  entrepreneurship via workshops at Suffolk Chamber of Commerce an understanding of food and drink and Land economy from Suffolk food hall . We have great links with Essex University and UEA on a range of future skills jobs in big pharma and global entrepreneurship. Schools need to radically rethink how best to embrace change , regular internships and secondments ,into business and vice versa would help as schools as exam Factories erode future skills .
I am still alive because of the geneticists of QMC in Nottingham , my skilled oncology team and the Scientists that developed my 4th covid vaccine. The Fabians have a proud record in shaping future thinking on skills . Be bold ,lead with a view to governing again . Progressives should be the only party worth attending in the future . “
